your children to never, never pick up a gun, even if it looks
like a toy.
-
Talk
about the dangers of guns with your children. Explain guns hurt
and kill people.
-
Talk
with your children about the dangers outside the home in places
where they visit and play.
-
If
you own a gun, always keep your gun unloaded and locked up.
Lock and store bullets in a separate location. Make sure children
don't have access to key.
-
Ask
police for help on safe storage and gun locks.
-
Speak
with parents of your children's friends to find out if they
keep a gun at home. Urge them to empty it and lock it up.
- Restrict
media exposure to violence, especially in young children.
SCHOOLS:
- Teach
dangers of guns.
- Establish
confidential reporting hotline.
- Every
report of gun possession or gun use must be taken seriously.
