Kids Count Too, a collaborative effort of the American Cancer Society
and the Wellness Community, is a free program for youngsters whose
parents or grandparents have been diagnosed with cancer.
Sessions held the second Saturday of each month provide children
and families with the opportunity to gain educational information
and share similar emotions and unanswered questions with others
who are also affected by cancer.
Creative activities for younger children provide them with an outlet
to share their thoughts and feelings about cancer with other youngsters
in similar circumstances. Participants in the teen group can explore
their specific concerns.
Parents also have the opportunity to meet as a group to exchange
ideas, receive educational information and share feelings with other
parents who struggle with the dual challenges of dealing with a
cancer diagnosis and providing positive parenting.
Participants can attend a single session or multiple sessions as
desired. The program is free, however, registration is required
to provide adequate lunches. Please call the American Cancer Society,
(619) 682-7415 or e-mail rsosa@cancer.org
for additional information.
