“I am so lucky to have had the opportunities
I’ve been given” Waking up at 2:30 in the morning isn’t always
easy but Nichelle Medina powers through the demanding hours every
weekday. Nichelle is co-anchor of the News 8 Morning Show and
News 8 at Noon.
Although Nichelle spent much of her early years moving around
the country, her family is settled in Fresno and today, that’s
the city she calls home.
“Growing up on various Marine Corps bases, I learned what hard
work and commitment are all about. I like to challenge myself
and hope that transfers to quality work.” Nichelle applied that
military upbringing to the news business. At the age of 18, she
was persistent and snagged her first job at KGNS, the NBC affiliate
in Laredo, Texas. There, Nichelle had a chance at experiencing
it all as a producer, reporter and weekend anchor. After finishing
college, it wasn’t long before she made her way back home to Fresno,
accepting a morning and noon anchor seat at KGPE.
Soon, San Diego caught Nichelle’s eye and in March 2001, she joined
News 8. Glad to be living in San Diego, Nichelle says the city
“encompasses all the different places I’ve lived. From military
life to border issues, this city has so much diversity and I love
that!”
When Nichelle isn’t delivering the top stories, she’s spending
time with her husband, a pilot in the Marine Corps and her baby,
Joey the dog.
